Cathepsin D Western analysis showing 4 representative samples in each group. Cathepsin D levels were quantified on the basis of β-actin levels. Cathepsin D corresponding to molecular weight 56 kDa was shown to be expressed in all samples including healthy gingiva. The expression levels of Cathepsin D increased in order of group 1, group 2 and group 3. Group 1: healthy gingiva from systemically healthy person. Group 2: inflamed gingiva from patient with chronic periodontitis. Group3: inflamed gingiva from patient with chronic periodontitis and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
